Caged Flight

Her soul is tethered to this earth

By the strength of your need for her

And the power of your love.

Her rhythm is shallow, irregular

As she sheds tears of despair

Fluttering like a caged bird,

Longing to be free.

The gray hues look bleak

The cries of sorrow, deafening.

Rancid smell of greed is noxious,

Bitter tastes of disappointments

Leave her choking.

She reaches out with hope

Only to be scorched

By the shackles of expectations.

Someday, my love,

You will have to let go.

Someday, you will have to allow the flight.

And the ashes that remain

May never reform into the Phoenix.

But know that

Just as much as you loved her,

She loved you back more.
